Sumida River Fireworks Festival

Random Tidbits

Just 4 days after visiting Katsushika Fireworks, he went to see Sumida River Fireworks as well. Did he find any difference between the two fireworks?

This is said to be one of the largest fireworks festivals in Japan and takes place near Asakusa. So, I left home at 4 to avoid crowds.

I met up with my friend living near Sumida River. We arrived at the riverside very early. The weather forecast said it would rain, we did not have too much expectation. We could not find a good spot to see the fireworks. It was possible to take shelter from the rain if we saw the fireworks under the bridge. But the bridge also blocked our view. So, we continued to look for another spot.

When I arrived at Sensoji temple, it started raining. We decided to have dinner somewhere because we thought that the event would be cancelled because of rain. It seemed that everyone around us thought so, all the restaurants were full.

One hour later, it was informed that they would not cancel the fireworks festival. We had already left a good spot to see the fireworks, so we decided to wait for 40 minutes to have dinner.

By the time we finished dinner, the festival had already started. We could not go back to the riverside because of the crowd, so we saw the fireworks while walking. It was unfortunately that we could not see the fireworks clearly because there were lots of high buildings around the venue. But it was fun to enjoy summer holidays by walking around Asakusa.
