Bon Festival

Culture & Seasons

お盆(Obon)is one of summer festivals to welcome and honor the spirits of our ancestors.
We generally have Obon during 13rd-16th of August or July, when the spirits are said to come back from the afterlife.

When Obon comes, whole family gets together, offer flowers and foods before the altar, put up Obon’s decoration, and visit the grave of our ancestors. It is said that “Bon Dance”, often seen during Obon, was originally performed to send the spirits back to their place at the end of the festival.

Without our ancestors, we would not be here now.
We should not forget a feeling of respect and gratitude toward them.
