Valentine’s Day, on February 14th, is recognized as “the day of romance and love” and celebrated in many ways all around the world.
What comes to mind when you hear Valentine’s Day?
-Chocolate!
In Japan, it is common for women to give chocolates to a loved one: boyfriend or husband(called 本命チョコ, Honmei-choko, lit. “true feeling chocolate”). They also give them to male co-workers just out of politeness to facilitate communication (called 義理チョコ, Giri-choko, lit. “obligation chololate”).
Some people exchange chocolates with their friends(called 友チョコ, Tomo-choko, lit. “friendship chocolate”), while others buy chocolates for their own enjoyment.
As Valentine’s Day gets closer, a vast array of chocolates will be sold in many shops.
Why don’t you buy your favorite one?
