Fleeting Summer Days in Japan

Random Tidbits

We share our students’ experience in Japan.

I like summer the best among four seasons.
But I think Japanese summer is a blink of time.
Looking back, I feel I could not do anything special before the arrival of autumn.
On the other hand, summer in China (my hometown) is much longer.
People wear short-sleeved shirt and go to the beach even at the end of November.

These are what I wanted to do during the summer season.
・Go to the beach
・Climb a mountain
・Enjoy swimming
・Eat 3 ice pops every day
・Read a book while lying down on my bed
・Take a walk with my cat
・Watch 10 films

But I thought summer in Japan was very short when I realized I had achieved only three of them.

There is an elementary school near my apartment.
I heard the buzz of cicadas from the trees in the schoolyard every day.
Some might say the buzz is annoying, but for me it is what evokes a feeling of vitality.
I surmise that the reason why they produce such a loud buzz is that their life is “fleeting”.
It is, as it were, a summer song. When winter comes, I will definitely miss it.
