Labor Thanksgiving Day

Culture & Seasons

“Kinro Kansha no Hi” (Labor Thanksgiving Day) is a national holiday in Japan celebrated on November 23rd.
Act on national holidays prescribes that we should show gratitude for our labor and celebrate the achievements together on the day.

The origin of Labor Thanksgiving Day is “Niname-Sai”, an ancient ritual celebrated by the Emperor of Japan, offering the harvest of the year’s production to Shinto deities and praying for a fruitful new year.

“Niname-Sai” was replaced with Labor Thanksgiving Day(non-religious) so that everyone could celebrate the day.
