Happy new year.

Culture & Seasons

It has been difficult time for all of our students to live a daily life and study because of the pandemic for the past 1 year.

In Japan, we visit a shrine on New Year’s holidays to pray for good health and safety, and this custom is called “Hatsumode”(初詣)

Most of us throw 115 yen into an offertory box there, because “115 yen” can be read as “いいご縁”, which means a “good fate”.

We should avoid throwing 10 yen or 100 yen.

10 can be read as とお(遠), which means “far”

100 can be read as ひゃく(百), the sound of which is almost same as はく(薄), which means “scanty”.

May this year become a wonderful one for you!
